Biggest Purse Ever at Breeders Cup

Caesars Palace has added more than two dozen Thoroughbreds to its future book for the Nov. 4 Breeders' Cup Classic at Churchill Downs.

Purse for the 1 1/4th mile affair has been boosted seven figures to million, making it the richest horse race in American history.

BREEDERS

Bernardini, the colt who scored a blockbuster victory in the Preakness Stakes and later won the 2006 Jim Dandy, but did not run in the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, is a 9/2 favorite, followed by Invasor at 6/1 and Flower Alley, last year's Travers Stakes victor, at 9/1.

Run for the Roses champion Barbaro is recovering from a near-fatal mishap at Pimlico and Belmont Stakes winner Jazil is 35/1.

Electrocutionist is 10.1 and Sun King and Ouija Board are 12/1.

Grouped at 15/1 are David Junior, Shirroco and Rathor.

Lava Man, who is the favorite in Sunday's million Pacific Classic at Del Mar, leads a trio that also includes Commentator and Deep Impact at 18/1.

Giacomo, the 2005 Kentucky Derby winner who failed in the Preakness and Belmont before being sidelined for a lengthy period, is 20/1 along with George Steinbrenner's Bellamy Road, Bandini and Perfect Drif, a frequently-raced Thoroughbred that seems to have been around forever.

Haskell Stakes winner Bluegrass Cat, who impressed with runnerup Triple Crown finishes, is joined by by Bullish Luck, Hurricane Run and Surf Cat at 25/1.

The 30/1 contingent includes Manduro Corre Caminos. Discreet Cat, Don't Get Mad, Grey Swallow, Hearts Cry, High Limit, Notnowcato, Silver Train, Wilko, Aussie Rules, Preachinatthebar and Declan's Moon, the early Kentucky Derby favorite before he was sidelined with an injury.

Pacific Classic hopefuls Magnum and Wild Desert join Jazi at 35/1.

Kentucky Derby disappointment Brother Derek, the morning line favorite and fourth-place finisher, is 40/1 with Sunriver, Suave, Indescene, Hitchcock and Greeley's Galaxy.

Greater Good and Kane Hekill are 45/1.

Rounding out the board at 50/1 are Wonderin Boy, Strong Contender and Magna Graduate.

Expect the odds to be shuffled like a card deck after Sunday's Pacific Classic and the following weekend's Travers Stakes.
