All About Frog Eggs

Frog eggs are the beginning of a frog's life, which is also known as evolution. The egg of the frog is a kind of huge cell, which is nearly one and a half times larger than an ordinary frog cell. The upper hemisphere of frog eggs, known as animal pole, is dark in color but the hemisphere that is on the lower side is light and is known as vegetable pole. The egg at metaphase is in the haploid form, which is deposited in the water when it is ready for fertilization.

The entrance of the sperm in the frog egg begins the sequence of developing life, which is known as meiosis two. The appearance of the grey colored band called the grey crescent always forms in the opposite direction of the place from where the sperm has entered the egg. After fertilization, the next stage is the cleavage. In this stage, continuous mitoses takes place in the zygote nucleus. Next, the cells are pushed inward, known as gastrulating. Thereafter, a formation of three germ layers takes place, which is known as endoderm, ectoderm and mesoderm.

BREEDERS

Frog Eggs Metamorphic Timing and Identification

Frogs are very selective and breed only when they have the right kind of temperature both in the air and in the water. This is a clear indication that their breeding time will always differ and so a particular time cannot be stipulated as the breeding time for frogs. Even the number of eggs laid by each species of frogs is different, so it is difficult to predict the total number of frog eggs that can be found in a single mass. We will talk about some of the species of frogs and about the identification of the frog eggs along with the metamorphic timing.

The chorus frog, found in the Western area, breed in the later part of April or in early May and the female frog lays nearly twenty to one hundred eggs. They are wrapped around a twig or a grass found underwater and the frog eggs are in cylindrical shape. The peeper of the northern spring breed from April to June and these frogs lays nearly eight hundred to one thousand white-colored eggs that are attached to some kind of vegetation or grass.

Some More Types of Frogs and Frog Eggs

A wood frog breeds in the month of March and April. Their eggs are in the form of globular mass, which is attached to the plants that are submerged in the water. There are nearly 500 to 800 eggs in each mass and these frog eggs are dark in color. The leopard frog that belongs to the north breed in the month of April, and the female lays her eggs in the form of a globular mass which is very tight and the frog eggs are black in color.
